The Siberian International Marathon (SIM) is the official competition included in the All-Russian and international calendars. SIM is a major international sporting and cultural event, which is of great importance in the social life of the Omsk region. For more than twenty years of history, the SMM has gained the reputation of a constantly evolving project, which has a consistently high level of organization, wide coverage and attracts thousands of participants and hundreds of thousands of viewers.

The first run of the Siberian International Marathon took place in Omsk back in 1990. 22 years in a row, it traditionally took place on the first August Saturday, but in 2012 the competitions were postponed to the second Sunday of the month. This was due to the fact that the organizers wanted to synchronize the start with the Olympic marathon, which was held in London the same month.

Participants start from the Cathedral Square. Every year in the marathon types of races change. It can be a marathon and two races for 15 and 5 km, a marathon and two races for 10 and 5 km, just a marathon, etc. A time limit is set for overcoming the distance of 42 km 195 m. It is five and a half hours.

Optionally, you can overcome the marathon distance on the rollers. To do this, it is only necessary to become a participant in this type of competition (from the age of 16). In addition, everyone has the opportunity to participate in the relay, in which the marathon distance is divided into 6 stages (from 14 years).

2011 brought the IAAF bronze label to the Siberian International Marathon. This prestigious status has transformed the race from an ordinary exotic Siberian event into an international professional one that meets all high standards. For all the time of its existence, this marathon has become a real holiday of sports, in which both professionals and amateurs, and thousands of fans participate.
