“As you may know, several regions of the country were badly affected by wildfires over the summer. The Georgian Football Federation took the decision to donate all funds from ticket sales for the 2018 World Cup qualifying match between Georgia and Ireland to the Borjomi Forest recovery efforts. Furthermore, we decided to organize a charity game which would excite the Georgian football-mad public, while at the same time contributing further funds to the affected regions. Our idea was to invite world-renowned past footballers to Tbilisi, and I can confirm that together with the players, the 2004 European Championship-winning head coach Otto Rehhagel will also arrive to lead one of the participating teams” said David Mujiri.

According to official information 200 hectares of forest were burnt in the Borjomi gorge during the fire summer.
